A: There are two main types of thermoforming: vacuum forming and pressure forming. Vacuum forming uses heat and pressure to draw plastic sheets into its final configuration. Once a sheet is heated and placed over a mold, a vacuum is used to manipulate it into its desired shape.

A: The parameters to be optimized and controlled are forming temperature, mold tool temperature, vacuum and/or air pressure, and liquid and/or air coolant temperature. Proper tool management and temperature control is the key to successful thermoforming.

A: Once the sheet is put in place, it is heated to a softening point where it then becomes moldable. After the heating phase, the heated sheet is moved to the forming station. Here, a mold or tool, often made of aluminum or wood, presses against the heated sheet, shaping it into the desired form.

A: While the mold temperature, clamping force and the chosen layup have the greatest impact, a series of factor interactions indicates margin for optimization of individual processing parameters

A: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Loads and unloads forming machine with appropriate materials to facilitate forming requirements using oven. Reads and interprets work instructions, and any other related documentation to determine methods and sequence of operations and dimensional and finish specifications.
